So much can change in a season that, for nearly nine months, the Mercury and the Wings were among the eight teams contending for the WNBA Championship trophy—now, they’re both fighting an uphill battle to get back into the postseason.

Mercury picks against wings and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based on our analysis of streak and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite across all markets.
At 6-9, things didn’t go as well as they did with Phoenix Mercury this season. After losing to Heaven in last season’s championship, injuries and the exact condition involving their star superstar, Britney Greiner, are having an understandable impact on a franchise that has ended up scoring top 5, 17 times since 2004, and winning three championships. .
Phoenix currently has an offensive rating of 99.6, ranking seventh in the WNBA. Their defensive rating, settled at 105.1, is ninth overall. Despite their big backyard names from Skylar Diggins-Smith and Diana Taurasi, they have an average assist rate of 19.3. They can score (80.9 points per game) and have a solid team field goal percentage (43.4), but they are the worst offensive rebounding team in the league and 2nd bottom overall in rebounding.
Across the board, Phoenix lacks what Griner brings to the team. In 30 games last season, she averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 57% from the field. That absence proved costly, as the team succumbed to doubles in recent games against Washington’s Shakira Austin and Atlanta’s Shayan Parker.
So, what are the pros of Phoenix? Well, for example, they have one of the best players in the WNBA in Skyler Diggins-Smith. 5’9 inches and 145 pounds Diggins-Smith might not be the size to frighten anyone, but she’s laser-fast, has a high IQ, and is a winner in every way.
In three of her last six games, Diggins-Smith has scored more than 20 points, including a 29 gem point against the Los Angeles Sparks, hitting a 10-for-16 and 6-for-6 off the loose streak. Diggins-Smith will try to capitalize on the Wings who just gave up 27 points to Las Vegas ace guard Kelsey Plum.
Sliding wings in the last four games has been a bit of a surprise for a team with talent and a solid foundation on both sides of the ball. Despite losing four consecutive times, Dallas holds an ATS seasonally adjusted 9-5 record. He scored 80.2 points per game and ranks sixth in the league in 3-point percentage (35.2), free-throw percentage (81.9), and rebounds per game (35.9).
Defensively, the wingers were also consistent in most categories, landing in the top five in 3-point opponents ratio (32.2) and rebounds per game (32.9). Dallas will need a solid performance from guard Ariel Ogunbwale, who put in a solid 28-point performance and set Mercury on fire with 37 points in May.
Dallas is in desperate need of a win, but the spread here may be too big to trust Dallas to cover.

Over / Under Analysis
The last time these two teams met, Mercury and Wings were combined for 178 points without Diggins-Smith, who lost time with a non-COVID illness.
Phoenix, a swinger this season, has been hot lately, scoring 90 or more in three of his last four games. Despite slipping in four games, the Wings have scored 78 or more points in their previous four games. The 94 points Wings scored against Mercury was the fourth most points they conceded throughout the entire season. Was this a huge mistake early in the season, or would an improved Mercury flip the script this time around?
Mercury should stress slow Ogunbowale, having already scored more than 20 points three times in June – she knows her production is needed for her team to win games. Dallas’ hands will also be filled as Mercury continues to recover. In June, Phoenix scored 86 points per game, the third best player in the WNBA. The wings are not too far from 79.4, which is sixth best overall.
The Wings are out on the Over/Under, and they’ve been successful in their last three matches. Mercury is 2-2 at Over/Under in their previous four outings but they will be looking to use their last offensive hot streak to get past that number.
prediction: more than 169.5 (-105 in BetMGM)
Mercury was not good on the road, with a 3-6 record. They score 77.6 points per game on the road, the third-worst point in the WNBA. Another concern is rebounding, as they average just 32.3 per game on the road, which puts them in the bottom 3. The wingers aren’t exactly some of the best home runs in the world, scoring just 78.7 points per game. The offense can be stagnant, evidenced by his worst 17.2 assists in every home game.
The Wings are set to score a victory after losing their last four games to the Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm – two of the best teams in the NBA. It won’t be easy, because Mercury has been figuring out some things and playing basketball better lately.
Mercury is a new team in June after massive struggles early in the season. They are 4-2 in their last six matches and have settled into a beautiful rhythm. The wings have been weak, and while this game is going to be a good contest, Mercury should cover here.
