Apple didn’t unveil two new iPhones simultaneously until 2013. It took years before the company sold more than three phones simultaneously. Today, however, there is an iPhone for every budget. But what about iPhones that Apple no longer offers but are still for sale on websites like Amazon? Sure, these iPhones are heavily discounted on many of the current models but does that mean you still have to buy them? Admittedly, this is a somewhat loaded question, but I’ll try to answer it.

Apple has followed a similar pattern in recent years when it comes to the iPhone models it continues to sell. This starts with the latest iPhone and iPhone Pro versions, currently the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 Proand iPhone 13 Pro Max. From there, you can roll out the latest iPhone SE, followed by the last two generations: iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 11.

That means, at least until September, when new phones are announced, that Apple sells eight iPhone models, ranging from the 2019 iPhone 11 to the 2021 iPhone 13 series.

What about software support?

buy a the new The iPhone means very little if the latest software that runs on it, iOS, can’t be installed. The oldest iPhones that support iOS 15 are the 2015 iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. However, this will change with the arrival of iOS 16 later this year. Next update, currently in betaSupport drops for the iPhone 6s series, iPhone 7 and the first generation iPhone SE. When the switch is made, the oldest supported iPhones will be the 2017 iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus. Based on current practice, these are the three iPhones that will lose upgrade support in 2023 with the arrival of iOS 17.

What about hardware support?

Eventually, Apple products became “obsolete” or “obsolete”. The differences between the two are minimal but important.

Old products are no longer distributed by the mother ship and are between five and seven years old. In some, but not all cases, the iPhones in this group are serviceable and replacement parts are available. By contrast, older models are those devices that Apple has stopped distributing for sale and are no longer available for service or spare parts.
